The SSO open house on monday was indeed a remarkable experience that i don't think many people can get. Once again i have to thank jeremy for giving me the chance to play for him. =]
It was an open house for primary school cute cuddly kids. Since there was an huge bunch of them, they had to be grouped and rotated around the different parts of the open house concurrently. There were 5 groups, which means, the brass quintet, just like the other ensembles, had to play the quintet piece 5 times. My weak stamina haunted me and i was thinking to myself all the time if i could actually last through the 5 shows. Of course there was a presenter from the SSO doing all the talking and introductions of the brass instruments and etc, and all we had do was to play an intro piece and the brass quintet piece.
I really admire child prodigys. He's (1st trpter of the quintet) only sec3 but he plays the trumpet like a god. His warm ups were already terrifying me. Imagine sluring harmonics on a trumpet, up and down, in semi quavers at quicktime !! I tried but the fastest i could go is in quavers, with rythm distortions. Oh well, once i have proper coaching, i'm sure i will reach that calibre. But not to mention the rest were marvelous too. If not, they wouldnt be the SNYOians.
Our presenter turned out to be the BASS TROMBONIST of SSO. He's australian and gigantic as a whole. Not fat but just utterly huge. I was strucked with even more fear factor and my heartbeat tripled. For those who don't know why, it's because i'm playing the trombone as well. I told him i quitted SYO when he asked for my tutor's name. He's a really nice chap and was telling me that i shouldn't have quitted and stuff. And YES, he made me regret quitting.
I have to admit the kids were damn cute and cuddly, cuter and more cuddly then the penguins from Madagascar. I couldn't get a good pic of them and neither did i get a good pic of the quintet. Kids nowadays are lucky. In every group of about 30 kids, half of them were digicam equipped. The moment they stepped into the brass section room, camera flashes were overwhelming, as though i had a brad pitt mask on. Even our presenter was amused. There was a few of them who scurried to the front to take a shot with the presenter. and NOT US ?!! But the best moment i had was when i played my intro piece. The flash frenzy broke out again the moment i finished. It felt like as if i'm doing some cover for a magazine. I even prepared a pen incase there's an autograph session. haha.
All in all, SSO open house was a blast !
theres some problems with this blogger photo upload tool. and im lazy to upload it in another server. so i guess i will just show it another time. =]
